Style Sisters top holiday packing tips to stay organised on the go this summer...

1. Make a list: The first step for any summer travellers. This can be done in your smartphone notes, or we usually like to use a pen and notepad, as there’s something satisfying about ticking things off the checklist. Usually, we find the list making process reminds us of things we need to buy or wash for holiday. You may find it easier to write down the number of days you’re going for, the activities you’ll be doing and method of travel, so you can really think about what’s needed. Alongside the packing list, note down some key ‘travel essentials’ for things like sun cream, sunglasses, passport, travel adaptors, first aid kit etc. Make a separate list for hand luggage items.
2. Categorise and contain: This tried and tested method works in every space when it comes to getting organised, so it’s no different for your suitcase. Packing cubes are the go-to item to add to your case to bring a sense of order. They will not only help you to save space by compressing clothing, but they make it super easy to find what you need. They also offer some protection to your clothing and personal possessions during travel on trains and planes.
3. Roll over fold: Rolling your clothes is another space saving tip, meaning you can fit more in, which of course is good news for more choice of what to wear whilst your away. Rolling them can also stop them from getting creased. We recommend this method for T-shirts, dresses, swimwear etc. Bulkier items like jeans and sweaters can rolled but it is best to use the flat roll method for those, combining folding and rolling.
4. Refill and reuse holiday essentials: Instead of buying miniature versions of your toiletries, we prefer to use reusable and refillable travel bottles, which you can fill with existing bathroom products. There are lots of styles and designs available, with simple bottles as well as screw top jars, bottles with pumps, perfume atomisers etc. Doing this will save on luggage weight - avoiding taking big heavy bottles of shampoo and conditioner, which you’re unlikely to need for a short trip – plus save you spending money on all the various miniatures. You can pick up travel bottles easily from high street and online stores. We love the ones that come with labels to stick on, so you can easily tell what’s what.
5. Stay organised on the go: There are some things in life that once you start using, you wonder what you ever did without them. For us, that includes a long-life portable battery pack, to make sure our phones can stay charged if for any reason you don’t have access to mains power or you can’t find your charging cable. There are lots of great options available, including solar powered designs. As it charges in sunlight, it’s a fab choice for summer holidays. Power banks need to be packed in carry-on hand luggage due to airline restrictions, but given you’ll likely need it on hand to charge your phone, we’d have recommended that anyway.
