Description
Scaramanga’s chests don’t come any bigger than this specular antique teak Rajasthani chest.
A chest with this level of detailing and ornamentation would have been tailor-made for a wealthy merchant in Rajasthani in Northern India. In its prime it would have originally used for securely storing family valuables, notes and records.
On the practical-side this chest would be most suited as a display feature in a large house or as a retail prop. We only say that because you’d probably have to climb inside the chest to retrieve items. The top section of the hinging lid lifts to open the chest revealing a single (non-compartmentalised) interior. The chest is well-made and in excellent condition. It is mounted on 4 wooden wheels.
Detail-wise, the photos here don’t do justice to the level of ornate heavy woodwork, brass workmanship, iron edging, large hinges, two large leaf-shaped hasp and decorative wheels.
Size: W145cm x D95cm x H120cm.
Our chests are not new or made to look old. They may have small marks and scratches on them, which are consistent with their age and original use. We feel these add to their character and appeal. Please look at the photos to get an idea of their condition. For more information see our ethical policy for wooden furniture and wooden accessories.
