Description
Simple folding stools were seen very early on in China's history - the first recorded stools being from the Han dynasty almost two thousand years ago. These developed later into larger folding armchairs, these being similar to the classic Chinese horseshoe chair but with folding legs and woven seats, making them transportable for travelling and easy to store. Our version is a faithful reproduction of antique Chinese chairs from the Ming dynasty, crafted and carved by hand and with decorative brass hardware on the arms and footrest. The curved backrest features wonderful open carvings of a 'kylin' (a Chinese unicorn) on the main panel, with a dragon inside a 'ruyi' (a symbol of prosperity) above. The seat is woven, surprisingly comfortable when stretched with the chair fully open. This is a real statement piece that will bring a wow factor to any home. Can also be made to order in black lacquer, light elm or other colours (allow up to 12 weeks for delivery).
