Description
Our Gustavian collection mirrors the late eighteenth century Swedish twist on French neoclassicism that King Gustav III founded. King Gutsav bore the Gustavian furniture style, amalgamating both French and Swedish style to create unique furniture that is distinguished by distinctive shapes, fluted legs, and beaded detailing.
The Gustavian Oval Nightstand is a defining piece of Gustavian style furniture. Characterised by vertical fluting to the sides and back - no detail has been left spared in the creation of this timeless piece. The tall, slightly turned legs have been tapered and gently fluted, referencing classic columns found in historical architecture. Acorn finials adorn the tops of the legs to create visual intrigue and contrast to the carved linear panels that sit beside the drawer. Fine, hand-carved beading finishes the body of the Gustavian Oval nightstand, marrying all elements of Gustavian furniture design.
A detailed bow-design gold metal drawer pull adorns the front of the panelled singular drawer. This style can be seen across the collection, matching across all pieces to unify them and create a seamless look across the bedroom. The nightstand's oval top is finished with a small 'lip' or rim, to ensure items don't easily slip off.
In traditional Gustavian style, the nightstand has been crafted from solid ash wood and finished with a mild and light distemper; over time the ash wood will weather to develop a rich patina that only the authenticity of time can evoke.
