Description
Kookaburras with their characteristic laughing call are probably the best know birds of Australia. They are the largest member of the kingfisher family, they mate for life and live in pairs or small family groups. The laughing kookaburra often lets out his laugh at dawn and therefore is known as the “bushman's alarm clock”.
The Kookaburra has dark eye stripes, blue spots on the wings and a long bill, black on top and light coloured at the bottom; the attached strong metal hook can easily hold a school bag or a jacket, a towel or jewellery.
The animal head is carefully and intricately hand-carved from lime wood and painted with water-based acrylic paint. Each head is a little different and, therefore, unique. The sturdy metal hook and the kookaburra head together are approx. 11 cm high and 5 cm wide.
