Description
Shanxi, circa 1880
These wonderful cabinets are in elm wood, beautifully crafted in a simple 'square cornered' style with the doors mounted on large rectangular brass hinges that match the central lock plates. They were produced in Shanxi province in central China, most likely used for storage in a bedroom. They are beautifully finished in a rich, deep brown that brings out the beauty of the wood. A single removable shelf is fitted inside each one.
Cabinets like these were usually made in pairs but it is rare to find a set still together, particularly in such good condition. They would work well either side of a bed or set in an alcove either side of a fireplace, with a warmth and simple style that would grace any interior. Sold as a pair, the price shown is for the two cabinets.
