About this kitchen:
Simon Taylor Furniture designed and made this farmhouse kitchen for clients who had commissioned them before. Recently retired, they wanted a light, bright traditional kitchen with an elegant twist. They live in a beautiful Grade II Listed property in Oxfordshire that was built in the 1760’s. With original beams and stunning brickwork, they wanted a kitchen that would be in-keeping with the architecture of their property.
All bespoke in-frame furniture was handcrafted at the Simon Taylor Furniture Cabinet Workshop in Bierton, Buckinghamshire. It was all designed to fit the dimensions of the 26 sq. metre room and decorative features include Ovolo beading and a classic cornice to elevate the look, with panelled and tongue and grooved end panels.
Tall cabinetry was designed and made to conceal all major built-in appliances including a French Door Fridge Freezer by Fisher & Paykel. The cabinets include a breakfast station behind bi-fold doors with an integrated combination microwave by Siemens, a tall larder with spice racks on the internal doors and another cabinet to house wooden vegetable drawers. In addition, a dresser was made to accommodate the clients’ glassware and ornaments. This has glass door panels with shelving lit by LEDs to make a feature of the dresser at night.
The multifunctional kitchen island incorporates a handcrafted cutlery drawer and deep pan drawers, all with dovetailed drawer boxes. On one side, is a wine climate cabinet by Rangemaster for white wines, next to a handmade bottle rack to store our client’s collection of red wines. At one end the 30mm Frosty Carina worktop by Caesarstone is an overhang with counter stools beneath for informal dining.
As part of the brief, the clients wanted a new AGA, which meant finding a way to duct an extractor through their chimney, which had been blocked up years before. While this presented numerous challenges, the team at Simon Taylor Furniture was able to find a completely bespoke solution for them. They designed their own extraction appliance, with an inline motor and all metal ducting handmade to extract to an external vent. They also laid new porcelain flooring in the kitchen that to create a seamless effect from one room to the other.
The wet run beneath the window includes a double Belfast sink by Shaws, with cabinetry beneath for bins and storage together with an integrated dishwasher by Siemens. The tap, by Perrin & Rowe has a nickel finish to match the nickel cup and ball knob handles by Crofts & Assinder.
