Description
Zheijiang, circa 1880
This unusual portrait mirror has been created using what would once have formed part of a Chinese marriage bed from Zhejiang province. The upper carved section, with a half-shoulder top frame, would have been set as the right hand support for the large, enclosed bed, with a corresponding carved panel on the opposite side. The main, shaped section in the large panel is in carved relief, showing a Chinese elder and distinguished lady in mid greeting. Made from beech wood and with a decorative brass bracket fitted for hannging, the mirror would make a lovely addition to any room.
