Description
This style of chair appeared slightly later in China's history than the 'Yoke-Back' or 'Official's Hat' chair. The main development was that the top rail and arms of the chair join onto the supporting posts rather than protruding further out. This gives a smoother, more fluid look. Our warm elm version has a rattan covered seat and curved backrest for comfort. The backrest has a scrolling dragon motif in carved relief, while the spandrels at the corners of the top rail and side posts are also finely carved. The seat is quite low, making the chair suitable for use in a living room or bedroom. Made from reclaimed solid elm wood with a rattan seat.
