With an experimental studio and workshop space set in South West Cornwall, Tom Raffield designs are synonymous with nature; each product is hand-shaped using sustainable wood and created as sculptural pieces of art using a pioneering form of steam bending.

Tom Raffield’s new collection, The Comber Range, launches on 30th August 2019 and continues to showcase the brand’s signature steam-bent curves and recognisable design aesthetic.

Inspired by the power and grace of the Atlantic Ocean and the spiralling forms found scattered along Cornish shorelines, Tom Raffield’s Comber Lighting Range awakens interiors with the motion of Cornish tides.

“The Comber Lighting Range explores our relationship with the sea - the fluid organic shapes and the emotions it conveys. Our new designs produce cascading shadows and sweeping lighting effects that pay homage to one of nature’s most empowering elements, and one that never fails to inspire our work.

We sought to create a lighting range that brought a piece of the Cornish coastline into people’s homes” - Tom Raffield, Founder.
Standouts of the new range include the Drift Pendant whose steam-bent profile produces pools of ambient task lighting and shadows that rise and recede in undulating, eye-catching grace. Other key pieces include the Neap Wall Light and Keel Pendant, intuitive lighting designs that mirror the beauty of tidal landscapes and offer a soft dispersion of light to insight feelings of coastal serenity.

The new collection includes:

Drift Pendant

Featuring six individual petals of oak or walnut interwoven and underpinned to a striking central structure of seasoned plywood, the Drift’s hand-crafted timber barrels bend to mesmerise and delight. Casting shadows that seamlessly float and settle in buoyant tranquillity the Drift Pendant brings ocean calm to any space.

Keel Pendant

Steamed in one isolated section, a wide piece of oak or walnut timber is arced by hand into choreographed formation and held with three brass rivets. Producing defined funnels of diffused downlight, the Keel Pendant looks beautiful as a single pendant but also looks particularly captivating when suspended as a clustered ceiling light.

Neap Wall Light

Mirroring the moon’s gravitational pull over the tide, the Neap Wall Light’s wooden silhouette showcases consistency. The Neap’s elegant form carves a perfectly balanced path of light to brighten above and below. An intuitive lighting design that sweeps a soft ambient glow to far corners and suits an array of spaces.

The Comber Range launches on Friday 30th August and is available to buy online from www.tomraffield.com.
