As the UK prepares to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II becoming the first British Monarch to reign for 70 years, a whole host of events and street parties will take place over the four day Bank Holiday weekend in 2022 (Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June).
Providing a brilliant opportunity to get together with your nearest and dearest, plan a street party with your neighbours and to connect with your local community, it is set to be a huge, history-making event.
Wayfair’s Resident Style Advisor, Nadia McCowan Hill, has shared her top tips to mark the momentous occasion in style with a celebration to remember:-
A contemporary twist on traditional
“Give the iconic red, white and blue combination a refresh this June for a stylish, photogenic backdrop. Incorporating pastel shades, pops of pink and mint will reinvent the traditional look and give it a contemporary edge. These colours still work well teamed with royal red white and blue, but give the scheme a modern feel.”
Platinum puddings
“This year is officially pudding-tastic, with amateur British bakers invited to enter the Platinum Jubilee pudding competition. From trifle to classic Victoria Sponge, meringues and cupcakes, no Jubilee celebration is complete without a selection of cakes displayed on pretty serveware. Add candles to a showstopping multi-tier cake and decorate tabletops with rose petals for a picture perfect finishing touch.”
Tea service
“No celebration would be complete without tea, fizz and cake. How you choose to style your table and the serveware used for the occasion is an important element to add the extra wow factor. Mix and match glass with ceramics, tea cups and saucers are a must. Display sweet treats and finger sandwiches on tiered cake stands for a regal look.”
Picture plates
“Tap into the maximalist decorating trend and embrace the more is more spirit with your very own plate gallery wall. Take the opportunity to mix and match old with new, with charity shop finds of commemorative plates for jubilees gone by paired with china patterned plates to pull the look together. The trend for hanging plates on walls certainly isn’t a new one, but if you take a quick look at Pinterest or Instagram you’ll see it’s popular once again with interior lovers. Plate walls work best when they aren’t too uniform, so play around with placement before fixing them to the wall with plate hangers or, even easier, command strips - statement style made easy!”
Fly the flag
“Don’t forget the all important bunting! A staple for any royal themed celebration, union jack bunting provides a super speedy decorating solution for jubilee parties. Loosely hang from mantlepieces and picture frames for indoor celebrations."
