As 2022’s hottest home décor trend - Biophilic design - shows no sign of abating, the experts at Woodpecker Flooring have turned their passion for all things wood and nature into some crafty suggestions to bring even more of the outside in this holiday season.

Whilst a beautiful wooden floor such as the Chepstow Rustic Oak or the new Highclere Natural Oak, creates a characterful foundation for this natural trend, why not layer in these ideas to create a healthy, happy beautiful space. Even the process of collecting and crafting your natural festive décor can lift your spirits and get you into the festive mood.

Golden hues
Bring a touch of classic gold to your Christmas decorations this year with this fantastically simple but effective idea. On a winter's walk, collect a bagful of leaves and leave them to dry. Once crisp, embellish them subtly with gold leaf or paint and place them anywhere that needs some festive cheer.

Deck the halls
Why stop at just the wreath on the outside of your door? Continue the decor inside with garlands on the stairs and perhaps a wreath on the inside of your door for an even more magical entrance.
And while they look impressive, anyone can have a go when it comes to making one. Forage in your garden or local woodlands for greenery and winter berries and buy some oasis and accompanying trays from a local florist. Pop the oasis in some water before placing them in trays and simply start adding your leafy foliage to build your foundation.
Once your base is bursting with greenery, add your winter berries randomly throughout. Finish with a string of white lights to add a festive glow.

Beautiful baubles
A simple yet stunning way of bringing the great outdoors in. Fill a selection of clear baubles of different shapes and sizes, with greenery, colourful winter berries and even feathers or other lovely outdoor treasures. Then hang wherever you fancy – not just on your tree!

Citrus celebrations
Making your own Christmas decorations is a great way to bring a natural feel to your tree and to ramp up the Christmas vibes. Dry slices of orange slowly in a warm oven, then decorate with spices such as cloves or star anise - or get out the glitter glue for some sticky-fingered fun.

Twig tree
Need more space to show off your baubles? Create a rustic twig tree for the dining room.
Again, get foraging but this time for sticks around 30cm in length. Give them a good clean and allow to dry thoroughly before placing them in a glass vase. Once you’re happy with the positioning of them, hang a few baubles from each twig for a gorgeous centrepiece for your Christmas dining table.
About Woodpecker Flooring

Woodpecker is a family-run business with a heritage in the timber industry that goes back three generations.

Founded nearly 50 years ago by Bruce Ker, a skilled craftsman who loved teaching people how to work with wood, the Woodpecker tradition is continued today by his son Nelson and grandson Darwyn.

Since the very beginning, Woodpecker have been passionate about designing and sourcing the finest wooden floors.

Their dedication starts in the forest. Woodpecker only use responsibly sourced wood with full FSC® or PEFC certifications, selecting the trees before they are felled and paying close attention to how they are sawn, stacked and dried.

The dry wood is then kilned twice for maximum stability before being machined. Centuries-old hand-finishing techniques - such as lacquering, oiling and antiquing the wood - further enhance its natural beauty.

It’s fair to say, nobody knows or cares more about wood than Woodpecker.

Headquartered in Caerphilly, Woodpecker currently offer over 60 flooring options in real wood, engineered wood and bamboo which retails online and at nationwide stockists.
