With the live-action Barbie movie release in July 2023, pink and the Barbiecore trend are lighting up fashion runways and home décor.

Rebecca Snowden, Interior Style Advisor at Furniture And Choice (FurnitureChoice.co.uk), shares 3 ways to create a pink aesthetic for your home.

1. Design a chic look with powder pink

Seen in fashion, film and now making its way into our homes, pink is enjoying its moment in the spotlight with the recent Barbiecore trend. Style this feminine hue in a chic, grown-up look using soft, powdery tones. “Create a contemporary blush bedroom with a half wall of rose pink and white shaker style panels,” suggests Rebecca. “Choose a modern fabric bed and layer bed linen in similarly soft tints of cream, peppermint and off-white, keeping it light and fresh.”

2. Play up maximalism with hot pink

Deep and passionate, WGSN’s Orchid Flower is a dynamic and vibrant magenta hue that ties in perfectly with the Barbie aesthetic of bold style and all things girly. “The key to decorating with a bright colour such as Orchid Flower is to have fun with it,” says Rebecca. “For example, use this hot pink as a feature wall in the bedroom. Balance this with a grey velvet bed to set the scene for playful finishes. Then create a rich, layered look with lavender bed linen and scallop-edged pillows for a fun, flirtatious Barbiecore-inspired touch.”

3. Embrace nostalgia with retro colours and shapes

Since Barbie was popular in the 80s and 90s, introduce nostalgic elements like retro-inspired shapes and colour for an easy Barbiecore update to your home. “Start with a neutral base of warm white as a backdrop for pastel pops such as mustard yellow, tangerine orange and watermelon pink,” Rebecca says. “Get playful with waves and abstract shapes reminiscent of the 70s. These can feature in prints, candy stripe cushions or in the form of trending wavy vases and mushroom lamps.”
