“Freedom of expression defines interior design trends for 2023, with zesty shades, vibrant slogans and 70s prints infusing joy into homes. Confident and free-flowing shapes, along with velvety materials, dominate homeware patterns. Nature-inspired textures like boucle create cosy spaces, while the biophilic trend combines bold colours, dazzling blues and abstract florals for a vibrant and unique design approach.”
Vicki Walker, Product Manager and Trends Expert at Hillarys, shares her top trends entering the home this autumn:

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
Driven by optimism and the freedom to inject individual style into a home, zesty shades will be the key colours leading this joyful trend as we approach autumn.  Use a combination of vibrant slogans, 70s prints and contemporary graphics to add character to a room and  make it your own. Confident, free flowing shapes like curves and abstract designs will take priority in homeware patterns, with velvet being a key material. This trend is all about bringing yourself joy, being unapologetic in your design decisions and decorating to your own taste.

TEXTURES THAT TOUCH

A great way to feel closer to nature is to incorporate soft textures, such as boucle,  into your living space. Boucle window dressings are a quick and easy decor update for chiller months of the year, like autumn, as the fabric is cosy and homely. Layering of different prints and fabrics will also become prominent in this autumnal trend, to ensure a home looks lived in and natural, rather than staged.

MODERN RENAISSANCE

Following the popularity of various period dramas and the emergence of regency core,  neutral tones with hints of lilacs and silver underpin this trend’s palette providing the perfect balance between stimulation and tranquillity. A great feature of utilising this colour in your home is that it reflects natural light to illuminate your space with a golden glow, perfect for south facing rooms to retain heat in the autumn.

BOTANICALS AND BLOOMS

This modern, biophilic trend incorporates bold, unusual combinations and hyper pigmented, nuances.  Dazzling blues and lively dashes of chartreuse shake up more natural, traditional tones like caramel brown, soft grey, terracotta pink, brick red and forest green. Abstract florals are a key print for this trend, with colour confidence being at the forefront of design trajectory.
