If you’re the latter and in need of some ideas to start planning your December décor, Wayfair’s Resident Style Advisor, Dee Fontenot, shares decorating inspiration to transform your home with the vibrant and magical: ‘Merry Maximalism’.
Wayfair’s Resident Style Advisor, Dee Fontenot: -

"A celebration of jewel tones, this look dials up the maximalist approach, with plenty of colour and Christmas sparkle. With a nod towards the traditional colours of autumn, it’s elegant, opulent, and contemporary. From the dining table to the bedroom, it’s a look that can be incorporated into any space."
Dining
Aside from the Christmas tree, the dining table takes centre stage for many get-togethers at home with loved ones, from festive dinner parties to one of the most talked about meals of the year.

Enjoy spending a little more time and effort laying the table, with just a few simple additions that will transform the space into a beautiful backdrop for the proceedings.

Choosing a block colour tablecloth will make the space pop, damson or berry works well for this look. The art of laying the table is all in the layering. Textures, materials, and colours will all have a big impact, so think about what will work well together and enhance your chosen theme.

For Merry Maximalists, opt for plenty of gold and metallic accessories, including candle holders in various heights to add interest.

One of the simplest and most effective ways to bring a restaurant feel to your dining table is the addition of napkins, napkin rings and placemats. It takes no time at all to add to each place setting but makes all the difference!
Decorations
Bring this look to life with a magnificent mix of deep navy blue, green, gold and berry tones.

More is more with this scheme and to ensure you have enough decorations to style the tree, use in amongst the dining table and across other areas of the home, a deluxe ornament set is ideal – with an assortment of colours, sizes and styles.

Individual hanging decorations and baubles can be layered amongst plain block colours, with metallic and beaded varieties bouncing light from the cosy glow of candles twinkling tree lights.

True blue
Here to make a statement, no maximalist scheme would be complete without a standout Christmas tree for extra impact. The midnight blue pre-lit faux fir is perfect for pairing with a treasure chest of jewel shades and decorations. It’s a contemporary alternative to a traditional green tree - maintaining all of the charm and style!

Choosing a pre-lit tree means fuss-free decorating, and the Sapphire blue faux fir is fitted with warm white LED lights to cast a gentle glow.
Décor displays
Creating an Instagrammable display doesn’t have to involve huge amounts of hooks, wire and DIY, with one of my favourite decorating hacks – introducing the backdrop arch! Traditionally used for weddings and events, the addition of one of these to your home decorating tool kit is sure to become your go-to wow factor for every seasonal celebration beyond Christmas, from birthdays to garden parties.

Simple to put up and down, they come in assortment of shapes and styles and are lightweight, making them easy to move around. One idea would be to dress with faux garlands, mixing in real eucalyptus and trailing ivy, tying hanging decorations at various heights to match the rest of your décor.

Simple swaps
There are lots of smaller changes you can make in other rooms of your home, making them feel extra special for the festivities. A Christmas doormat will set the scene, cute mugs for hot chocolate and, in the living room, cushions and throws will change up everyday look. In the bedroom, a mini tree by the bedside is a cute touch, plus the all important Christmas stocking!
