Create the perfect cosy space as we move into late summer and make the most of your garden in comfort.

Wayfair's Resident Style Advisor, Dee Fontenot, shares ideas and inspiration on how to: -

- Style your outdoor space for an August Bank Holiday outdoor get-together.
- Embrace an Indian summer with some extra practical additions to help you enjoy the space throughout September and early autumn.

A relaxed atmosphere can be achieved however big or small the garden get togethers are, with the right seating and accessories.

A cushioned sofa set with a coffee table is ideal for cosy drinks in the garden. Sure to become a much-loved and well used entertaining space.
Bank holiday garden entertaining...

Just as you would inside your home, the first thing to do when prepping for a garden party is to have a little spruce up of the area. Clear any clutter or fallen leaves with a quick sweep of the patio or decking and give any pots and planters a tidy up. It is amazing how quickly small changes can make a difference to refresh a space and get it guest ready!

An outdoor rug will zone the area and is the perfect foundation to build around, from the furniture to accessories, pots and planters. A scalloped edged rug is not only super on trend, but will add a soft touch, maintaining a timeless traditional feel. A hard-wearing handmade jute rug is a good option for a 'high-traffic' outdoor area.

Layering your garden with accessories will soften the space. Either scatter a garden sofa with outdoor cushions or borrow cushions and throws from inside to ensure guests are sitting comfortably. The addition of a selection of vases filled with flowers will add a celebratory feel to any occasion, plus means you can add some extra pops of colour.

Al fresco evenings in the garden...
Whether you want to stay warm and cosy on cool nights or extend outdoor entertaining season altogether, outdoor heating can add the right amount of warmth to your garden.

There are plenty of options when it comes to heating a patio, including different kinds of outdoor fireplaces and portable patio heaters.

A chiminea is a small, fireplace-like heat source with freestanding legs and an upright chimney. They come in a variety of materials, such as cast iron, steel, clay, aluminium, and concrete. They are more compact than other types of outdoor heating, making them a great space-saving option.

When choosing an outdoor heater, opting for a chiminea vs fire pit can be tricky if you don’t know the differences between them. Chimineas are loaded from the front while fire pits are loaded from the top. This will affect where you place your heat source.

In order for everyone to get a view of the fire, a chiminea must be placed in a corner, while a fire pit must be placed in the center of the group. Chimineas have smoke vents that direct smoke upwards while fire pits do not – smoke will billow in the same direction as the wind. For a traditional fireplace style and better smoke control, a chiminea is an ideal choice for you.
