It's this time of year when panic starts to creep in about whether or not your home is ready for that perfect Christmas.
Every year at this time, we start to see more and more people looking to improve their fireplaces. From full chimney breast renovations, to just the internal fireplace itself. Brick slips are an incredibly popular choice here, as it's traditionally how a fireplace would look, going back centuries.
The Brick Tile Company's brick slips are just tiles cut from real bricks, so bring that real feel into your living room, they are tiled on and completely suitable with the appropriate adhesive and pointing mortar to go around a log burner, gas or electric fire.
The fireplace is the ideal place for the opening presents on Christmas morning ideal, the place where you hang your stockings for the big man, so it makes sense that people want that vision to be perfect.
There are 3 main ways that people use brick slips to bring style and a sense of tradition to their fireplace:
Internal Chamber- This is tiling either the back wall inside, or more commonly the 3 internal sides, to reflect where existing brickwork would have been in older house when a chimney was created.
Chamber and Pillars - This look is almost always accompanied by a wooden beam, the internal is tiled, and then L-shaped corner brick slips are used to come around the front, often alternating (and using half brick slips to fill the gaps) to form a pillar look either side.
Full Chimney Breast - Where the full chimney breast is tiled, using corner brick slips to go around to the wall behind, some people also reverse this, and tile the full wall behind, leaving the chimney breast painted.
