There are moments when we find we’re getting asked, a lot, for a certain style or tile or a particular look. Most recently it was terrazzo (ideally timed as we just launched a new terrazzo collection – the very dreamy, Rialto terrazzo tiles) but right now, it’s all about brown bathrooms. The Ca’ Pietra community is going crazy for them in all their warmth and woody glory, so if you want a slice of the chocolate-y bathroom pie, our Head of Creative, Grazzie Wilson gives you five of the ways to cut into the trend.

1. Softly does it with taupe and beige

Like every colour, brown is a sliding scale. From the 80% cocoa depths of walnut brown to the mellow neutrals of taupe, beige and putty. If you’re into lighter tones then create yourself a brown bathroom that blends the lot – all eyes on this Enki limestone bathroom as a lesson in how it’s done. Using the large format rectangle with ribbons of brown tones on the floor and then adding visual texture with the herringbone version in the shower enclosure, you’ve immediately got a soft brown setting with whispers of deeper brown in the mix. Layer in a few accent pieces, like this tan leather chair, a woven jute bathroom rug, a terracotta brown pot or two, and a statement washstand (we went for black marble but a brown marble or timber version would’ve allowed for yet more brown if you fancied) and you have yourself a through-and-through brown bathroom to swoon over.

2. Ways with wood

Proof that wood isn’t just a material but a colour too, wooden-style tiles pave the wave to a bathroom that’s at one with nature. Starting with the floor, a wood effect bathroom floor can feel comforting and charming in a period property or style it differently and place it in a modern setting and you can create a blonde wood Scandi bathroom that transports you to Stockholm with every shower. Or use wood effect porcelain, like our Beach Hut tiles up your walls as well as the floor to really encase the bathroom in the warmth that shades of brown bring. What’s great about wood effect tiles is that you can add in a touch of black (in the form of brassware or your shower screen) and you’ll soon see that wooden walls can give rise to a moody, industrial look just as impressively.

3. Brown, but make it pretty

Love the idea of a brown bathroom but wondering if it will feel too earthy in situ? There are plenty of ways to style a brown bathroom to soften things and to prettify the space but one of the best ways is to choose a brown tile that adds immediate softness thanks to its shape. Take a look at our Marlborough terracotta bathroom tiles, in particular in our room-softening Arabesque shape. You can also look at our Kashmir collection for inspiration on how to add brown in a “softly does it” kind of way too.

4. Brown parquet perfection

A tile formation that is a forever trend, parquet walls and parquet tiled floors are always a winner. Some of our favourite brown bathrooms of all feature brown parquet tiles whether it’s the speckled finish of our Pottery tiles that give rise to a multi-tonal brown palette on bathroom walls, the rich terracotta brown tones of our Marlborough terracotta on a bathroom floor, or have fun with our Petite collection.. The finishing touch? Cosy, underfloor heating, a burnishing copper bathtub (they’re sort of brown after all) and a cocooning brown paint for walls and your dream brown bathroom is complete.

5. Brown schemes packed with personality

Brown tiles add character and charm to any bathroom, whether you’re decorating a tiny downstairs loo or have a whopping family bathroom. But, when it comes to brown, it doesn’t have to mean playing it safe. In fact, we think this colour scheme works just as well when you pack it with personality as it does when you colour drench the room in the same tile. Enter our

Rialto terrazzo tiles in Santa Croce which we’ve teamed with a stripe design, adding heaps of personality into this bathroom.
