Sofa Trend Predictions for 2025

Curved sofas and luxe textures continue to reign supreme. Earth tones are set to warm up your living room, while modular sofas are reinvented in modern and exciting ways.

Amthal Karim, Head of Design at Furniture And Choice comments:

“So what’s 2025 shaping up to be like when it comes to sofa trends? Like interior trends as a whole, the latest sofa trends represent our lifestyles and desire to take care of our wellbeing. With the amount of time we’ve spent at home over the past few years, our living rooms are now the centre of our home and sofas the focal point.

When it comes to sofa shapes, curves reign supreme. Choosing a curved sofa has become easier since the trend started with curves now being incorporated into every style of sofa you can imagine. Furniture companies are becoming more innovative in sofa design and combining traditional sofa elements with curves and waves to create new designs. A cocoon-shaped sofa allows you to lounge, relax and chat more easily than a traditional sofa design.

The rise of curved sofas has led to the ongoing popularity of bubble sofas. With their distinctive silhouette, bubble sofas marry comfort and style with their curved backs and playful curves that break up the harsh lines in a contemporary living room. Coupled with luxe upholstery like velvet, boucle and plush fabric you have a winning combination of looks good and feels great. What we love about bubble sofas is that they bring a sense of playfulness while also fitting right in with the flow of the room.

Texture is always one of the deciding factors when choosing a sofa. Bouclé has continued to catch our eye with its luxe texture and understated elegance goes hand in hand with the curved interior trend. Bouclé accentuates the fine forms of curved sofas which is probably why both are here to stay (for now). Combining these trends will immediately put anyone at ease and create a contemporary living room that’s stylish and inviting.

The popularity of curved shapes and cosy upholstery, has also caused a shift in sofa colour palettes. We’re moving away from cold whites and cool greys and gravitating towards subtle, cosier tones of ivory, stone or dove which add softness and depth. There has been an obvious shift from grey sofas to lighter-coloured seating that makes a space feel cosy and immediately more relaxing.

Relaxing earth tones are trending and are here to remind you of your favourite cafe. With the rise of Cafecore, shades of brown like camel, beige, mocha and espresso are great picks and make the space feel like a cosy cocoon. A brown sofa will easily complement any other natural textures such as wooden flooring or a jute rug.

Functionality is another key sofa trend for 2025 - not that it’s ever been out. Multifunctional furniture such as a sofa that doubles as a bed allows customers to maximise home space. Modular sofas are ideal as guest beds when you have friends to stay and larger, roomier sofas with a chaise seat. It seems furniture customers want it all — style, function and storage. Besides that, the L-shaped and corner sofas we’re used to seeing have gone super-size and the seats are deeper to accommodate this new style of lounging. Fibre-filled Oxford pillows have replaced standard sofa cushions for a softer, cosier sit. Recliners are trending in velvets and soft fabrics making them not just a practical buy, but also a chic fit.

Recliner sofas also remain popular thanks to the rise of the home cinema. They are quickly being re-invented in modern and exciting ways — whether it’s a sleek, leather recliner with space for snacks and drinks, or a plush corner model with a roomy chaise so that everyone can put their feet up. We’re noticing new materials, colour and features coming into play such as plush fabrics and even velvet and chenille adding a contemporary touch to this style of sofa. The trend for recliners is also moving away from neutral greys and browns and moving into bright, fashionable colours. What’s more, tech additions have become popular such as USB charging ports or space for your mobile phone.”
